Since AutoMOD isn't supported any longer in phpBB 3.1 (and versions above)...
How about an "Extension Upload Button" for ACP that enables to upload an extension
(ZIP archive) to the right place (.../phpBB/ext/authorName/entensionName/) simply
using your browser instead of having the need to have installed any FTP client or
the need of caring about the correct path and folder names of an extension.
I think this RFC could be very useful for many people that have a problem to
install an extension and it would not require large code changes in phpBB 3.1
(even if phpBB 3.1 could be still feature frozen for accepting new RFCs).

Re: [RFC] "Extension Upload Button" for ACP
Thank you for the information about the extension called "Upload Extensions".
It's a very good idea but, I think it should become part of the standard phpBB package.
Otherwise, we still need a FTP client for the first time we want to install that extension.

Thank you very much for that information, DavidIQ.
I'm with you and hope that feature will be realized very soon.
There should be actually no reason for not supporting this initiative.

Re: [RFC] "Extension Upload Button" for ACP
You can expect to see it in 3.3 (or 4.0...not sure which version we're going to be doing next) since 3.2 is already in beta and is feature frozen. So the "Upload Extensions" extension will be the way to go in 3.1 and 3.2.
Re: [RFC] "Extension Upload Button" for ACP
You can expect it for the next version yes, we start working on it a bit too late so we are lacking time to test it properly and it won't be in 3.2

Version 3.3 or 4.0......are you serious?
It's a lot too thin! Maybe in my next life.
What's so difficult as to realize it in 3.1.8?

Re: [RFC] "Extension Upload Button" for ACP
3.1? That version has been feature frozen for almost 2 years...
Maintenance releases (3.1.6, 3.1.7, etc) are mainly for bug fixes, not for new features. New features would be added to the following major version. This is the normal development lifecycle for almost any software that is being actively developed.
Re: [RFC] "Extension Upload Button" for ACP
I will think about releasing at an extension for 3.2 if it is ready early in 3.3 development. But I can't promise anything
