This would be a nice feature, and I would say even more important for the admin control panel when you are trying to manage users (maybe typing in a few characters will bring up a list that might match or not). This could be expanded for more than just for the end-user's view, and would be extremely helpful overall in multiple places.

Seems like myBB is going to implement this sometime soon.

I didn't try to be mean, this topic topic was created Aug 26, and the feature freeze date for 3.2 is Sept. 13th (as it was announced here). That's along with the fact that there were no code written by anyone results in not having that feature in 3.2.
