Both phpBB Ideas (link) and the customisation db (link) have functionality similar to viewtopic.php. Currently, that involves basically copying viewtopic.php, which is kinda bad. Not sure how the customisation database does it, but iirc it's pretty similar.
It would be useful if there were something I could call which would give me something I can pass straight to assign_block_vars.
