the projects you reference are not open source projects so its a lot easier for them to acquire developers as the pay them. since phpbb is open source then it solely imited to the community effort behind it to assist with its progression

i know developers working hardly for 3.1 but its not enough i think. and there is many open source system. its not about pay or money although phpbb.com with donate and ads can get money and can pay to developers. many open source system do this now ( linux systems ).

Unless you want our websites to be overloaded with advertisements, there is no way to pay for an entire development staff on advertising money.

Only one PR remains before we can start preparing 3.1-a1 (migrations data). Once that is completed there will be a two week window to merge other PRs that are ready enough and then 3.1-a1 will be released.

vBulletin was 4 before phpBB was 3.0, the numbers do not mean ANYTHING.

Chrome and Firefox are not better then IE, because they have a higher version number.
The content of the code is what matters and we try our best to provide a good release with 3.1
