Advantages of Font Icon Replacement

I completely understood you as you can in fact replace all icons in a theme I was just point out the draw backs if we choose to use this for the future development of phpbb, IE 4.0

Are you even considering using FontAwesome instead of icons? Me, as a MOD author, really hate creating icons for navbar and they always look ugly. If phpbb uses fontawesome instead, it would be so simple to add icons for new MODs or custom links in navbar.
