[RFC] Topic Review Enhancements

Post by Pony99CA »

The topic review is a wonderful feature, allowing you to see previous posts and even quote them while making a post. Unfortunately, it has two shortcomings:
  • It only displays a limited number of posts, making it more difficult to quote posts beyond the topic review threshold.
  • It isn't available at all when editing a post, making it more difficult to add a quoted post to your existing post. The lack of this may help encourage people to violate the six-hour bump rule on phpbb.com -- why quote the post, copy the text, close the window, then edit my post and paste the quoted material when I already have the post open as a quote anyway?
So I have two proposals:
  • Add a more link at the bottom of the topic review which would grab more (or all?) posts. Obviously, do not show the more link if all posts are already shown.
  • Show the topic review when editing a post. If there are good reasons not to show it by default, at least include a topic review link that displays the topic review. (If you don't want to display all of the posts when that link is clicked, support the more link above.)

Re: [RFC] Topic Preview Enhancements

Just to point out, the feature is called topic review, not topic preview (no "p" :P).

Anyway, I support both of these suggestions. The former will probably need ajax or else the more link will need to be a form button so that when it is clicked you don't lose all your entered post information.
I do custom MODs. PM for a quote!

I just wanted to create new RFC for this, but found yours, so it is +1 for me.
