I just looked at registration form here on area51:
Please note that you will need to enter a valid e-mail address before your account is activated. You will receive an e-mail at the address you provide that contains an account activation link.
Complete with bold text and everything. I think this is sufficient motivation to check the email address used in registration.

Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
I don't really see any pro on removing it.
For the normal user (not registering in hundreds of forums per year), it might happen that they mistype their address and when they have to retype (check) their address they might see it.

I don't see a reason to remove this.
AFAIK most users don't even bother reading the instructions so removing this could cause lots of complaints.

As Linus Torvalds said: if you assume your users are idiots, only idiots will use your software.

Myself and I'm sure other users are frustrated at having to copy and paste email address on every site. Not might or could, are.marc1706 wrote: AFAIK most users don't even bother reading the instructions so removing this could cause lots of complaints.

Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
+1 for removing it
Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
I agree that it is annoying to have to type it in twice. I seriously doubt that having to type it in twice prevents a lot of misspellings, so my vote is in favour of removing it as well.
Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
As an alternative, email address confirmation can be put into ACP registration settings as an option, switched off by default.
Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
I don't think that adding another switch will make people happy. If you want to remove the confirmation, then just remove it and don't add another setting to the ACP. IMO there are already enough settings in the ACP that people barely use.
Re: [RFC] Delete "Confirm e-mail address" from registration
Indeed I'd rather keep it than add yet another option in the ACP.

I'm +1 for removing.
