Installing a new style

Post by ninabell »

Is there any way of installing a new style other than with FTP? There must be an easier way to install it! Why is it so difficult to install a new style? Wouldn't it be easier to be able to do it by just downloading from your computer?

The only way phpBB can install a new style is for you to physically put the new style folder in the ../styles folder. The only way to transfer files/folders to a webhost (that is not local) is to use ftp or a webhosting file manager that does the same thing. SMF and other BB packages have the ability to browse, upload and install a new style stored on your local hard drive, phpBB does not. But in the realm of things, ftp is a basic skill anyone with a website should have. ;)

Why don't you want to use FTP?
It's only dragging a folder/files from one side of your screen to the other.

If you're on a free forum host you can't do it though.

The reason I want to use FTP is because it is what I been told here. According to the link below posted by phpBB you need to use FTP to install a new style. That's all I want. I already downloaded the style.. all I need is to upload it to the Administration Panel of my forum to have it available and istall it. I am starting to get REALLY confused. And now, you are saying that all I need to do is to drag the folder/file of the style? Drag it and drop it where? Could you explain that with more details, please?

HERE are the instructions posted by phpBB for the installation of a new style.

I do should have it and that's where I get confused. I use Filezilla and I connect but then... once I connect, I don't know how to transfer that file.

So you've never used Filezilla before, is that the issue? Read this Filezilla tutorial for beginners as it will explain the file transfer process.

What's the link to your board?
If you're on a free forum host you won't be able to do this anyway.

I am not in a free forum host. I have a paid hosting company.
