Re: SPAMBOTS - how can we stop them - read FIRST post.
I did the 2 Custom Profile Fields explained at the start of this thread, one based on numbers and the other a question relevant to the subject of my forum and no spammers in the past 24 hours.... we were getting 6 per day....
Re: SPAMBOTS - how can we stop them - read FIRST post.
I haven't read evry single post on this topic, but I too had been having same problem last week. I tried banning by username, ip, email address etc but to no avail. I then changed my admin password, and no spambot registrations for past 4 days. Perhaps the fact that the main site had been compromised, led to my password becoming available. CHnage you password and you should be fine.
Re: SPAMBOTS - how can we stop them - read FIRST post.
I'm using v. 2.0.13 (with subsequent security mods). After being bugged by spambots for a bit, I put in a mod to require a keyword to be put in the registration. The keyword is somewhere in my website and I change it weekly. Those who really want to register will find it without a problem. No more spambots since.
I also capture the IP address of people who register. If it's an anonymizer, I delete them pronto.

We were having up to 100 per day until I changed the setting for post approval to 3 posts. Anyone who gets past that will be immediately banned but over the past three days we have not had one spam registration.

Thank you so much. Probably I have something going wrong in my ACP modul.. there is NO "enable queued posts" or such.. I found cookie settings Hopefully it will now be ok. "ACP>user registration settings>user" - nothing there..
Can it be happen that my ACP is not updated?
I hope it's ok if I write it here:
Your board's URL: http://talk.musicdivision.hu
Version of phpBB3: 3.0.4
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? Upgrade from 3.0.3
If update, what package(s) did you use? Upgrade from 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 downloaded from phpbb
Did you use an automated wizard provided by your host to install phpBB? Yep.
MODs you have installed: None
When the problem started: 2 weeks ago, after I installed the upgrade..
Your level of expertise (be honest): I am honest, I don't know.. Probably beginner, why would I ask for help?
Template(s) used: DirtyBoard2.0
Language(s) used: EN, HU
Version of PHP used: PHP 5.2.6
Database and version used: mySQL - the newest
I won't give test user name and password out here, just in PM for someone who has a few minutes to check why I don't have some stuff in my ACP. There are loads of bots registering to my BB and if I change the CAPTCHA parameters and send, a blank page appears.. there is something going wrong there

Fantasico installs are not supported here as they have altered the code.Denio wrote:Dear James N!James N wrote:Please fill out the Support Request Template.Denio wrote:

to make your board up to date, and fix the problems you are having do the following
1) save your config.php file HU language pack, and dirtyboard style to your PC to keep it safe
2) Download the complete file package from here
3) DELETE the config.php and images directory from the download
4) upload everything else to your webspace overwriting whats already there (making sure not to lose what you saved in step 2, or re upload if needed)
5) go to http://www.yourforum.com/install/database_update.php
6) delete the install directory
Please note. If you have any MODs installed, they will be overwritten and you will need to do the edits again
If you are still having problems after doing this, please start a new topic
Re: SPAMBOTS - how can we stop them - read FIRST post.
I just installed the anti bot mod from the given mirror, however I seem to have missed something.
When I go to the registration page I dont see my registration question. When I go through the registration process I get the error saying the question hasnt been filled in.
I went through the install again and I still dont see it. The mod has been activated from the admin panel. Any ideas which part I have missed?
Thanks in advance.
Chris

You need to apply the mods to the style(s) in the subfolders of the MOD (at least for the style you have set as default). Then you need to refresh your templates from the Admin control panel -> Styles -> Templates -> Refresh
