UpDating to phpBB v22

Post by KY Dave »

I have a phpBB2 v 21 board with EZ Mod installed and a few other mods like U2U Invitation Only.

I've noticed it is time to update to version 22 of phpBB2, so now I'm
wondering what should I do to update.

I've backed up all the files in the phpBB2 Directory and tried to "patch" the files on the server, but I get an error due to 'database field already exists' when I open the install.php page and it runs.

So I replaced the patched files with the backups and things are working OK again.

Now, I've come here for advice.

Shoud I use EZ Mod to unINSTALL all the mods, then update the files, then reINSTALL all the mods?

Will this work?

Should I just upload complete v 22 files then try to install the mods again? Will EZ Mod re-install the same mods?

Is there a better way?

Any suggestions?

Yes, there is a much better way. Go into the phpBB MOD Center and click on the phpBB Installation & Upgrade Tools link. Then download the [27/12/06] phpBB 2.0.21 to phpBB 2.0.22 Changes. After extracting the phpBB 2.0.21 to phpBB 2.0.22 Update maintaining the directory structure, you can upload it to your admin/mods folder and install it just like any other MOD using EM...

Thanks for the quick reply :D

Your suggestion worked nicely!

If I can add to your suggeston...

that a user will need to FTP the INSTALL Folder to their phpBB Directory and then load/run the update_to_latest.php page to update their database. Then delete the INSTALL Folder to complete the update process.

Once again, thanks!
