well the good news is that the bug reports haven't been coming in near as fast lately. down to a trickle.

Maybe the folks who tend to report bugs are busy with things outside of phpBB. Next week, the open bug count may be back up to 60-something... who knows...

Either way, with as many open bugs as there still are, especially ones classified as "Reviewed" (but no solution devised) or "New Not Reviewed", it's difficult to say if the Development Team would want to progress to Beta 3 at this point. Also keep in mind that some of the items labeled as "Fix In Progress" have had that status for a while now - maybe they've been difficult to resolve, and it will be a few more weeks until they are. Finally, who knows if the recently submitted fixes may have created their own set of new problems?

I don't think so, everybody can submit bugs it should be verry special that 1000+ people who search bugs just now all are to busy?

On the other hand it's hardly necessary for the bug count to get down to 0 for a new beta or even for the final release - in some cases that might be a sufficient condition but it's hardly a necessary one. Some number of bug reports are always caused by hardware problems, user error or misunderstanding, or even real bugs that are just very rare in actual practice.

Having said that, the only reasons for putting out a new beta would be either that too many of the bug reports coming in are duplicates, or that a new beta or RC (presumably with fewer bugs than Beta 2) might get a wider testing than the current one, or that there are enough changes that the new code base requires a new round of testing to make sure there aren't any regressions. It's hardly enough to say that the bugs are down to N (whatever N is), therefore a beta is imminent; the question is whether a new beta would be useful in some way to the developers.

Looking at it now, there are 39 "Bugs", which is down from 70+ a few days ago. There are so many of what I would call "easy fixes" or even not bugs, or duplicates floating around on the list as well.
