Attachment Settings
After installing the current beta I have a question that I have looked but can not find an answer, in the attachments settings you can assign a 'Total attachment quota' for Maximum drive space available for attachments in total and 'Maximum filesize' for Maximum size of each file. My question is if you set the 'Total attachment quota' to 100Mb and 'Maximum filesize' to 1Mb and some users use 60Mb of that quota and other users have less quota space so to the point is there any way you can assign a maximum quota for each user or even assign different quotas to different groups, if anyone can give me any information on this it would be muchly appreciated.
Re: Attachment Settings
Are you going to leave this like this in the final version as users will take advatage of that so why implement such a feature with such little control and security over it?
Re: Attachment Settings
The attachment feature is meant as an integral part of a board, where people are able to post little images as well as other material if required. Since i created the attachment mod i know that the mod itself got abused by a majority of people as a download archive (which is fine btw) as well as a means to post and (more importantly) share illegal material. The attachment feature in phpBB has different aims as well as trying to be as much connected to the board/core itself as possible. It is absolutely fine to not have per user/group quotas - these are often only required if you setup download archives. Here, other software is much better to achive this. If you set the maximum allowed size for attachments to a normal level and also watch out for users trying to abuse it. The chances of it are very low - and if it happens these users normally get/should be banned very quickly. Additionally the only intention behind abusing it i can see is to spam files - though need to be done with several posts, due to the maximum files allowed per post setting.
Not having a quota feature has nothing to do with security.

Re: Attachment Settings
Thankyou for clearing that up.
Re: Attachment Settings
Mods/Admins should have to approve uploads that aren't images the way vB does. Otherwise everything else about the upload system is great

What do you mean 'should have to approve?' Why would they have to approve them? It would be good to maybe have a setting for it, but required, I would have to install a MOD to make that not happen.
