My new style?

Post by harmlessgoat22 »

Well, I have been working on my new style for a week or so, and I think it's really looking pretty good. I never made a style in phpBB2, just edited a few files in it, but I have found making my own phpBB3 style quite fun. I am not completely finished, but if you would check it out and make a few positive remarks, and please only tell me ones that I wouldn't have to completely change the whole thing to make.

Here

Using both horizontal and vertical shades isn't very pretty, and it looks a little unfinished because the background of the main table is the same as the background's. The header is to wide for small resolutions. It doens't look like you did much on the templates, just the color theme and images (still looking subSilverish). And what's with the "new post" button?

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. ;)

what background color do you think would look good for the maintable?

Horizontal shades...do you mean the ones that are over the topic/post count thing on the home page? Edit: Just changed the horizontal shades to not be there. Look better?

What should I change with the template files?

New post button is from the old forum theme I used, blackandwhite or whatever it is called.

Spambot: I think you do this on your forums. How do you have links to the subforums without manualy going through the files and adding every link in.

Hmm.. Dark grey, perhaps. Do some experimenting. :P

Anything to create something unique and in style with your website. Without loosing functionality of course.

Forums -> select forum-> select subforum -> edit -> (Manage Forums -> General Forum Settings ->) List Forum On Index: yes.

The first time I saw this template, I REALLY disliked it... now it's starting to look a little better.

For one thing, your forum should really match the main site... background table colors, table headers, etc... should look the same, you should even use the same font if possible. If the forum took on the look of the main site, it would appear a lot better.

Just my 2¢
:D

I don't know. I don't think it looks as nice with dark grey background as it does with black. And the images don't look as good. I could change them, but then they would have to look good on black and grey because at the bottom of the view forum area, it shows what the diferent images mean, and the bg is black there, and I really don't care to change that. I could also change the background from just part of the forums area, with a little editing of stylesheets and template files, but that would kinda defeat the purpose.

highway of life: when you said "The first time I saw this template, I REALLY disliked it... now it's starting to look a little better." did you mean that I had changed it to look better or that you were starting to warm up to it?

So, you think it looks atleast decent? Because I don't need an excellent style, I need a style that doesn't make people want to go to another website when they see it. Because, afterall, the coolest style may be awesome for the web designer, but someone going to the site looks at how many people/posts there are, the style is just a bonus. Some of the forums I go to have the worst style ever, and the main site and the forums blend like oil and water.

But its not ugly, is it?
