So, the last surprise of Olympus is ...

Post by Vigacmoe »

Since the BETA was out, all (most of) the new things of Olympus have been unveiled, except the new theme made by subBlue. I can't wait to see it!!!

I've been thinking that. Apparently in one of the older cvs versions, part of it was accidently released, but quickly removed. Not even all of the dev team has seen it (so I've been told).

I found a CVS copy when the new look template was leaked accidently in my server's backups, but I was nice enough to delete them. Sorta got told to keep them to myself.

Thats was very respectful stallyon, it makes me even prouder to be a part of this community. :D

I'm very excited as well, I'm sure the theme is going to rock.

As for being the last suprise, you just can't tell. The team has said the features are frozen (and I'm sure they are), but when you look at the feature list, it says "This list is not complete, but only highlights the most important feature additions", allowing them to be able to work on something and not tell you about it . So just because your seeing the beta in it's entirety, doesn't mean there isn't a feature that they have been working on and aren't releasing it to be beta tested.

There could be other suprises the day it goes gold.

There were rumors about features they weren't telling us about a while back (often caused by them hinting), however, I would have expected such things to be in the beta so that their surprise wasn't tainted by causing bugs in the gold release.

I assume most were pushed back to 3.2 when they trimmed down the feature list.

I think from comments made that the new permissions system was one of these secrets, but acyd decided to allow that to make it into the public code base to get feedback a while ago.

I was under the impression its very hard to remove all traces of something from a CVS repositry. Even if you delete a file its still there if you check out and old version, thats the whole point of CVS, the entire program can be recovered at any stage of its development.

I'm not sure what would happen if you erased the ,v file from CVS, that would probably remove all traces of a file from CVS but might break it aswell.

If anyone is really bored they could go through the commit logs, and look for which version it was in and then do a CVS checkout for that file version or time.

^lol, im sure they took it down. anything that had to be done to do it would've been done.

^^true, that if they don't tell the secret, it won't get beta tested and thus no feedback. but the dev team could also test it alot and report their own bugs to each other (which they already do) in private and still release quality code without public beta. and it could be smaller things, not something big like a whole new permissions system.

stop ruining possible suprises

We also have no idea what those ripple images were found on psoTFX's old blog. Could be related to the new style perhaps?
