New CAPTCHA

I have more trouble reading this than any of the CAPTCHA's we've come up with so far. Including the ones that didn't work.


The K looks like an L. The B can also be mistaken for a H. The P looks like a small capital D.

Sure, it might be hard to crack with a computer, but this relies far too much on the eyes to see the letters (Other CAPTCHA's leave enough edge or other "meta" info to allow people to see the letters without having to hunt for them). I would love to see what colour blind people think.

I was tired of waiting for beta so installed 26MAY CVS. Very smooth. Some formatting twixts need to be done. So far I've found it stable.

The CAPTCHA I got in the first try 8O but after getting to the ACP I saw there are a WHOLE BUNCH of settings to variable this CAPTCHA thingie. Quite frankly I'm going to have to trust the default settings and whatever user feedback I get.

For example, I have NO idea what entropy has to do with a CAPTCHA. Entropy means things falling apart ... does the CAPTCHA have something !CHING to do with eschatology ?

That's nifty and unique from the CAPTCHA forms I've seen. SESE No probemo. And I like the no color dependency b&w for the 8% color-challenged.

I see the point in fooling the 'bots ... it's **me** I'm worried about ) In general to foil pattern recognition, wouldn't it be better to have curvy lines rather than straight lines comprising the CAPTCHA alphanumerics ?

... or how about an impressionist school image and then have the user type in the name of the image ... e.g., an image of a tree and the user has to type in "tree" ? I'm not sure where you'd get the library of items though. That wouldn't lend itself to a math formula. Fractals ?

CAPTCHAs seem to be quite interesting (and difficult).

This way, a computer only needs to find some major parellel lines and work from there. More complex (rounded) fonts would help.

I've never seen so many different deviations from generic CAPTCHAs, and they're all really good.

Are all of the CAPTCHAs posted in this topic going to be incorporated into phpBB3, or is the phpBB dev team only using the CAPTCHAs that are already in?

I think with a little more work, that one could be quite readable to a human yet still hard to read by computer.

Hmm, what if each letter was moved up/down a bit? (sry no time for an example). There wouldnt be any parrallel lines between the letters.

I do like this, but I would like to see it in a rounded font, as was mentioned before, it could be 5 or S.

I cannot read the colorblind one good enough to enter the correct captchal (and no color perception problemo).
