6 months for a new release of an operating system isn't fast?

How long hae microsoft been working on Vista?

Unless your refering to spped, at which point its faster than windows and twice as fast as Mac according to some benchmark (I think it was linked on digg.com , I forget he URL).

You use Ubuntu (btw. Live CD DOES NOT count, CD runs slow because your CD drive is smewhat slow, and it probably has problems managing RAM as it has no hard disk to write stuff it pushes out of RAM).

Sorry to interrupt you guys, but I think Ubuntu is not the subject of this thread ! ;)

Well, let's talk about the 68 Reports remaining :) Still a lot of troubles ^^
Most problems are just `simple` stuff, why aren't they closed ? I mean ok the team work and they have to take all the time to make things properly, but it has been a while since some bugs like this one are waiting to be resolved.

I hope they've plan the release processing. Like a beta with or without bugs... all features or not...when and how...
We need information, don't be cruel

P.S. : Dapper Drake powaaa

you HAVE to have all features in for a beta, otherwise it's not a beta.

sorry about the OT.

That bug you posted is set to "review latter", persumably that part of the system is not fully complete yet?

I doubt beta is going to be released to phpBB2.1.x is feature complete, its not normal to release beta before its got all the features your adding. Beta MAY be released if there are a few minor (in terms of noticability and effect, not in terms of ease of fix, thoose are differant things) bugs, most of the obvious or major ones are normally fixed prior to moving to beta.

some of the bugs are pretty minor such as: http://www.phpbb.com/bugs/viewreport.php?b=1868" target="_blank (no offence to whoever reported that).

Maybe the developers are devoting their time to the more important bugs which take longer.

I've seen people using phpBB 3.0.0 already... I don't know if they should have it yet though...

Every bug tagged as "Review Later" will be revisited after the BETA has been released as said within the bug tracker opening announcement.

I know where it is in the UCP, but I can't find it in the ACP!

Offense taken! ;) :D
j/k, no... I know it is minor, but I debated (with myself) about posting it for a few days, and finally decided to, might as well have a perfect release.
Plus, it's getting harder for me to locate bugs, I had to find something!!! ;)

phpBB has been fixing a lot of bugs lately. I have to change a lot of files everyday to stay up-to-date on the latest CVS.
BTW, if anybody is interested, I'm keeping track off all the changes that are being made on my phpBB3 CVS forums. Makes it easier for me. Just go to the link in my signature.

Without really wanting to start a discussion about this, it's fair to say that ubuntu and Vista are not apples-to-apples comparisons. How fast could ubuntu be released if they didn't concentrate on quality, or if they had better funding? Well, at a certain point, funding is less an issue...you get diminishing returns. (Note that for "free" projects like phpBB or ubuntu, "funding" is sort of equivalent to "amount of dev time available.")
you HAVE to have all features in for a beta, otherwise it's not a beta.
In theory. Like most things, in practice, this is not a hard and fast rule.

Ubuntu may not be a contradiction. The project was initiated by a millionaire. Thus, it may be fast and good, but not necessarily cheap.
You can never go home again... but I guess you can shop there.
