what if you added symbols to the image?
maybe that wold make it harder to read.
Or embed the "Type only oragne letters" phrase inside the image, then the bot has to scan the image to get that text and re-scan it to try and come up with the string

Re: Visual Confirmation
What if you reduced the letter spacing by 4pts and ran the letters together. It sure plays hell with the ocr software in our office.
Where would you like to go today? http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/

I've tried that also. works well against ocr, i agree =)Drew*** wrote: What if you reduced the letter spacing by 4pts and ran the letters together. It sure plays hell with the ocr software in our office.
Re: Visual Confirmation
One point I want to make clear here is that anything we implement has to work in other languages - English only is not an option, we expect 3.0 to be available in a similar number of languages to 2.0
Also, when working with colours or other effects or tricks, remember that the image still has to be readable by humans - if a human can't read the image it is of limited use.
There are some interesting ideas here and we are still working on this area, but there are certain hard constraints on what we can do. I have seen some interesting other approaches on other sites, but many are not applicable here for the reasons above.

Re: Visual Confirmation
ln(2) or just have them enter the first 100 significant digits...

nonetheless, it would surely weed out a lot of registration attempts unless one had an "easy" random-function generator too

Re: Visual Confirmation
Is it just ln2?
if x tends towards 0, arctan(x) tends towards 0, root(arctan(x) . sin(1/x)) tends towards 0, 2 + root(arctan(x) . sin(1/x)) tends towards 2, therefore, it's just ln2.
Or, did I miss something?
edit: damn you cyberCrank. You beat me. Well, atleast the "you were beat to posting" bit saved me the trouble of having to click the edit button.

What about blind people? I don't think there are many blind people using PC's...much less using a BB.
