the sadness

Post by Uchiha Nick »

sometimes i wonder how sad some people are. a good friend of mine, has a forum software hes been working on as well, and well..
The UseBB Community has been closed down temporarily.

We have been attacked by a former competitor, who registered numerous unwanted accounts and posted many negative ratings on software directories like Hotscripts. Today, I have been in contact with this person over a public message board and I have received death threats.

We will consider filing a complaint to the local police authorities. I'll keep you notified about future news.

If it depends on me, we will reopen soon and continue the development of UseBB 1.0 and 2.0.

i kinda wanted your oppinions on these kinda actions. id especially love to have the oppinions of the devs from this, to see how they would react to this. you might say, this happens all the time, but the author of this useBB isnt a softass, so it must have been quite serious.

if this is considered spam, im sorry, and will immediately delete it. ( if possible )

That really sucks.

And it looks like a really good board system as well, it would be a shame to halt
development of it.

Hello,

I'm the developer of UseBB. The ex-competitor was a very unknown project that copied from other projects and attacked some Open Source BB projects.

I'm about 99% sure, development of my board will continue.

wow, that sucks :(

why is it that people spend ages developing/supporting/modifying open source products, and others some along and in a fraction of the time try to take that away?

Yeah. I mean, we all like phpBB, but that doesn't mean we're going to burn
down IPS HQ.

If you have a board software you enjoy writing, then no one should be able
to take it away from you.

Just my 0.02c.

I don't understand...some guy posted negative reviews..while not very nice, he's within his rights. It's up to the software directories to tag unwanted entries as "spam" and remove it (which I'm sure they would do). As for the death threats, yes, report it to the authorities. Otherwise, screw that guy, why shut down the project? :?

He has used many open proxies to post the reviews and to register unwanted accounts at our forum. The reviews and ratings have been removed at Hotscripts, thanks to their friendly and helpful staff.

I am currently working to improve UseBB with some features that prevent this sort of abuse. The forum will be back up very soon and development will continue. We have many plans and won't throw them away just because of one person. :)
