Re: Smilies?
We won't know if there will be new smilies until we see the new theme, and we all know we won't see that until the very end ...

Re: Smilies?
If you don't like the smilies they are easy enough to change, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Re: Smilies?
I know this isn't real important, but to tell you the truth I've always thought the current smilies look kinda...well...male. I think it's the eyebrows.
I made my own custom smilies to look androgynous and I'll probably carry them over to the new version.
Oh, and I like the current size because bigger ones would interfere with the line height. I like uniform line heights.

Re: Smilies?
This is an idealiac thread to post my question in.
I have a pack of generic smilies, and I was wondering if I could have the chance to offer it for the new system. Although I doubt they will be used, I do hope that they will be considered.
There are more, and I also included a blank if anyone wants to make their own. There is complete set of anti-aliased versions of these for light backgrounds aswell.

Re: Smilies?
You can offer them for the current version if you want
phpBB is designed in such a way that the smiley packs can be completely replaced quite simply - we have a category for smilies in our Styles Database. The new version will also have the same functionality.

Re: Smilies?
How about them? They're SVG which means they can be resized to anything you want. They're not made by me but by a friend of mine, Deusiah. Take a look at what he says on his blog (where you can also see these smilies in action in a good size):

IMO the best smilies out there, really!
