The developers continue to work hard on phpBB 2.2, and I know most of us appreciate very much all they do for us in providing phpBB and in supporting its ongoing development.

I do just want to point out that in many parts of the world we're approaching a holiday season, and most of us, I'm sure, are hoping the developers enjoy the season with family and friends as much as possible.

All that to say, we can begin praying in earnest for a beta release after the first of the year.

It is indeed different and lots of new features, plus a permissions-based configuration scheme, which may be evolving somewhat.

I just installed a copy of the CVS last night on one of my other webspaces (definitely not going to put it on my main site until we hit at least Beta), and I have to say I am VERY, VERY impressed. Congratulations to all the devs for making phpBB the best already, and phpBB 3 better yet!

I do say that I'm very impressed with the new features already implemented here. It even has a Friend/Foe system, which is a good feature that's hard to find. I can't wait to beta test this thing.

I can only agree.
phpBB 2.2 looks very good and I think maybe I will convert from vB to it as soon as possible.
A very new feature I have never seen are the rules at the pm system. Wow
