Mile stone 3?
What mile stone is this? 2, 3? Has 3 been completed?
Re: Mile stone 3?
2, No.
Look at the version number of this forum. Last number (ie 2.1.2) denotes completed milestone.

Re: Mile stone 3?
Oddly enough I was reading in an interview with the phpBB founder (his name escapes me at the moment) in February that he expected the 3rd milestone to be completed at the time of the interview. So I am wondering if they really are on milestone 3, but didn't want to change the version number so as not to cause a huge ruckus and flood of questions as to when it will be done.

Unless they are also cunningly leaving bits out of the CVS to deliberately decieve us, then no

To this day I do not understand the rationale or reason behind doing this? I guess because it is free and being done on their own time they don't want to set deadlines for themselves?rabidgopher04 wrote:but didn't want to change the version number so as not to cause a huge ruckus and flood of questions as to when it will be done.
How many people would you say have switched to vB because of this?

Well, it was just a random hypothesis to be taken lightly. I mean if people want to switch to vB that's cool. What is the phpBB team losing? Certainly not money. I'm happy with my 2.0.8 board and I'll try 2.2 when it comes out, but there's no way I am switching to a $160 piece of software just because I think the phpBB team is moving too slow.enzo250gto wrote:To this day I do not understand the rationale or reason behind doing this? And for all we know they have set deadlines for themselves, but may not want to reveal those to the public.
Here's what you need to ask yourself: is a great forum based on the features it has or the content of the forums? To me it is a combination of the 2, but content outweighs features so I am satisfied waiting for 2.2. If it comes out in December that's fine.

Ones with more money than sense for a start...

Why people with more money than sense? I have clients who want forum-based sites up and running now. I used offer a phpBB 2.0.x solution but since only two clients ever took that option over vB3 I put my vB demo board first on the list.
What do you want me to say to people? "Well since phpBB 2.0.8a doesn't suit your requirements we can wait a few months and you could have a look at phpBB 2.2"? No way, I want to make money, not send possible clients away.
No this isn't complaining, I just use the right tool for the job, I run phpBB on my personal site. I know the dev team are real people and I like their work, I just wanted to point out it's not all about "dollars and sense".
