My personal estimate based on the check-in's that I've seen is sometime this month but there is still a further milestone to go after that. However so far as the final release is concerned, the only definite answer which you are likely to get is sometime this year (2004) although one of the developers has posted when he hopes to have it completed by in one of the threads but this is not a definite date as yet.

It may come out before December; the latest guesstimate of the lead developer is cautiously optimistic about a release before December. But the main idea to keep in mind is that the developers appear to be quite determined about releasing 2.2 at some point in 2004. So, the wait isn't overly long from this point forward ... which is what MarkS was trying to say, I think.
