area51.phpbb.com/phpBB22

Ok I just might add that this is one of the worst forums I have been to in my whole life. I love the dev's you guys are doing a great job and making a great product, but some of the members here, it is just impossible to get any sense in them! Why does everyone just try to *beep*? Why not help out some? Let me go get some examples. I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this, if it is the whole freaking forum or just a few members.

http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB22/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14091
I answered my question before it was asked? I do not see how............. All I see is someone trying to spam or be an ass or something.

http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB22/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14091

How about this one? look towards the begging and the end. This one is just insane! I get imediate "do not post bug reports" where was I asking a bug report? I do not see it.

Also I get this on multiple occasions, sometimes just sheer stupidity. Once I was just kidding about the sourceforge CVS thing being down and I was like "sweet! phpBB is only .4KB!" I was j/k of course. but of course I get a "Your a real dumbass, there is nothing there  "

LOL!! are people making fools of themselves on this forum as a joke or is this real? I would have to laugh if it was....hehehe

I agree in a way but what can you do? They moderate the board so what they want is what happens. You want member-to-member support for phpBB 2.1.x, go start your own forum and put a link in your signature. I'm sure some people will move over but that's all you can really do. This'll get locked so your wasting your time.

Ok, first off, perhaps I should point out that both those links go to the same place ;)

Anyway, this is a development forum which is primarily here to show people what is happening with the development of 2.2 and to allow the developers to test certain aspects in a "real" environment and get feedback from users. It does not exist for feature requests (there is the tracker on SF for them), or for bug reports (the time for this will come later) or for support in running the CVS snapshots.

I think what you will find is that a lot of the people here, from the developers through to those who have been here a while are just starting to get a little fed up of people constantly coming on and posting those things above and expecting answers and not looking at some of the previous information on those topics before they do post.

Maybe some of the responses can be a bit short in those types of threads, but on other topics discussing how things work or getting feedback you'll find that things are a lot different because that is what we are here for.

There are some people on this board that believe they've earned honourary moderator status ... they haven't. This is where many of the "problems" arise and where appropriate we'll remind those members of their (non-)positions.

Wrt "acceptable posts" ... well I won't comment on the (one ;)) post you've mentioned (so don't take any of the following as a response to you Modenaf1). However one of my pet peeves are the posts that start like:
This isn't a bug report but can you fix X please?
Is this a bug?
I don't know whether to post this to the feature request tracker so I'll ask here ...
I can't be bothered to post to the tracker so here goes ...
blah blah. In order the response to these posts can be summed up as follows:

You are reporting a bug, please don't bother at present and we will not fix bugs to order ... they get fixed when they get fixed.

It may or may not be a bug ... wait and see if exists in the beta release

Review the features visible here, review the feature request tracker (including closed entries) and if it doesn't exist submit it.

If you cannot be bothered to help us by saving us a little time and trouble we cannot be bothered to review your idea.

As a related aside ... there are those here who seem to think they speak for me or my team ... they do not. If I or my team wish to comment we will.

I apologize for the links. I dont think I ctrl C'ed right for either the first or the second one.
I think what you will find is that a lot of the people here, from the developers through to those who have been here a while are just starting to get a little fed up of people constantly coming on and posting those things above and expecting answers and not looking at some of the previous information on those topics before they do post.
I agree with you. The only thing is that people are so fed up it is like they make it a goal to *beep* to other members who post bug reports and feature requests and ask for support, and they *beep* at some people for doing that when they aren't even doing it!! But I do agree, it does get annoying when people always are doing those things, it almost tempts me to shout in bold letters in hot pink in the highest font "READ THE DAMN ANNOUNCEMENTS AND NO ****ING SUPPORT" But I don't do that, becuase I not to long ago did the same thing, and I learned, they will too. Maybe not the first but probably the second. What seems to annoy me was I was asking if it was frowned upon to post ALOT of feature requests in the tracker that had not been posted yet and in a kindof sarcastic way said at the begining of my post "this is not a feature request, I know to go to sourceforge, I am not asking a release date, I am not aksing for CVS support yatta...yatta...yatta" And I get something like this: "Funny you ansered your question before it was asked :) "

It is just rediculouse. It almost seems to me that:

1.) They have no idea what to say but it is a chance for them to spam and increase their stupid post count so they make up some BS

2.) They know the DEV's dont like it when people dont follow the rules so they try to suck up and *beep* at everyone.

3.) they are just real A holes.

psoTFX, thanks for the reply. In that one thread I was asking if it was a bug becuase I liked the way it worked, if it got fixed in the beta then it would not owrk that way and it would be too late to submit it to the Sf thing. And aren't you guys glad? If I had not asked and assumed it was a bug, which it was NOT, you guys would have had another useless thing in SF feature request thing.

Um, guilty as charged. TBH, though, anyone who believes that I'm any authority on anything needs an eye exam
