Language Packs?

Post by Silent Ninja »

I've noticed that in all CVS and also in here, the only language pack available is the english...
  • Are the Language Packs included in M3 / M4 or they will come after the Alpha, Beta or RC versions became available?
And also...
  • Who makes all the language packs?
Because NOBODY can speak in ALL that languages at the same time... except for a machine like Terminator... or maybe if u have control of the Matrix :P:P

The language packs are produced by various volunteers who speak the language in question and can translate from the original English (you can see who did each of them for 2.0.x on the download page).

As for when they will appear for 2.2, my guess based on the 2.0.x development cycle would be somewhere in the RC phase, when the base language pack should be about finalised.

A quote of psoTFX from another topic:

Don't worry. If it doesn't happen before the offical release, then it shouldn't be long at all before it's translated into many different languages.

How about dual-language Forums? I run a forum in which users post in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as English. There is a problem in the current phpBB release (I use 2.0.6) in displaying Chinese characters in the subject title when viewing in English. I had to manually adjust the 2.0.6 templates to use Unicode (UTF-8) encoding.

Will the same happen in 2.2? Or will there be a Unicode option? :)

I'm hoping we can make all packs available in their local codepage plus Unicode (UTF-8). This will somewhat depend on cooperative translators :)

Well this is strange, and more when I read your signature, but I really want my forum running in Mandarin and also Spanish, strange isn't it?

I'm a spanish native speaker but I'm studying traditional chinese in Taiwan...

I run two forums, one phpBB and a vB, and my question is even when you will offer the language pack is it possible to get a translation tool to 'fix' some phrase as in vBRC3? because the pack for 2.0.6 have some english terms that should be in spanish, and also maybe I would like to fix the pack when the 2.2 be out.

See Ya
Charlie
