PHPBB vs Invision

basically phpbb has beter templates and hacks so what you have to add umm yourself. just lets you understand the structure better i mean i recon loads of people running invistion have never even viewed the source of there boards.

And who can blame them? I downlaoded the Invision File Manager because phpBB doesn't have an alternative. A quick glance through the source and... well, frankly, it offended me. Did these people ever learn to set things out neatly?

I have to point out here, IPFM is a totally different product from IPB. It was bought in, it used to be Aquonics File Manager. It's coded by a completely different guy from IPB.

Having said that though, I don't like IPB's HTML either...

Looking back through this thread, I forgot that I had offered to write a MOD that is similar to ssi.php. I'm not backing out of this offer, but Roberdin brought up a good point. Some users' requests for features/items might be fulfilled by the portal.

I guess that's entirely dependant upon whether he wanted his decision to apply universally, or whether he was trying to say he'd made the decision alone and independantly to apply to his sphere of influence.

For a while I thought that Invision was better than phpBB for a couple of reasons.. mainly because it came preinstalled with everything you need for a good forum system while phpBB relied on you hacking it to a ..usable state.

However, the way phpBB looks is much sexier than Invision. I've never seen a good theme FOR invision so ultimately it's worth the hacking just for a sexy board.

But yeah.. They're really dependant on how much time you want to spend on setting up your board. I generally prefer phpBB.

How is Invision "pre-installed"? You still have to run an installer before it can be used. The only pre-installation I can think of is their installation service which is basically someone else doing the same thing.

I think he means the file attach mod (which I just did 6 templates worth over the weekend), birthday mod, yidda bla, Included with invasion.

Invision is bloated, confusing and you couldn't pry phpbb from my cold dead hands!

I prefer Invision to the current phpBB, but 2.2 looks so great! You guys are definately raising the bar and will have no problem beating out the IPB guys.

And vBulletin will have some major and serious competition. I can just see the developers of vB squirming in their office chairs seeing their sales drop by something like 35%. 8)
