I run a forum with users who largely shun technology, and they seem to pick up on BBCode quite nicely, tyvm.

If a user is to dumb to use BB code or HTML they probably shouldn't be posting on an MB.

actually myself and techie-metal are working on a WYSIWYG for 2.2... the thing is that we are going to have it to where the admin can turn it off or on globally.. or have users decide which they would like to use as an option in their profile.. as soon as phpbb.com comes back up i am going to take what techie has done so far and implement it on my 2.0.x forum that i mess around with and then probably release it as a mod for 2.0.x :)

Having it user seletable would be a good solution Jay.

Is the one you and techie are working on based on one of the pre-existing "cross browser" ones that I think we discussed over at the main forums?
Need good web hosting? I recommend Hostrocket.

yes that's the one... the thing is that neither of us knows javascript well enough to do certain things.. like clickable smilies and the font color bar like the one here on area51.. that's something i'm going to take a look at and maybe figure out... if you know of any JS gurus let me know :)

I guess you mean something like this? It is pretty nice, but only works in IE and Mozilla (not in Firebird) so far though and has some bugs.

actually that's the one.. techie went in and fixed some stuff since he knows a TON more about JS than I do... i'm going to go into phpBB code and implement it in 2.0.x as a mod.. get that to work well.. and see how it fairs.. and i think paul said he would put it in the release of 2.2.x as long as there were the options of disabling it globally by the admin, the user being able to disable it, and have it break gracefully if the user has it chosen but their browser doesn't work with it.
