Template-engine ready?

Post by Lloyd »

Hi!
I'm really looking forward to phpBB2,2! And now I was wondering if the template-engine is finalised? Ie, could I start working on new styles? Or should I wait? Thanks for a great job!

You should wait until at least betas or RCs. Even then things will more than likely change, but not so much as they will now.

There is a topic discussing template/styling issues in the New Features Discussion forum, in fact - showing that they are still open for suggestions on the subject.

While you could get your colour scheme sorted, in depth editing of templates and images probably isn't a good idea atm.

(BTW: I thought we were in UK English, but the panel to the right says 'Font Color'... :?: :?:... Ooops, that counts as a bug report, doesn't it... *runs*)

*screams and hides at the mention of the tainted and misspelt word that is 'color'...*

What's wrong with spelling color, color?! Easier to type, easier to write, and thats how it's pronounced

So what. English is a smegging awful language to learn. It has stupid grammer and spelling rules, and has far too many words spelt the same and pronounced differnetly, or pronounced the same and spelt differnetly.
I know that in other languages I speak, words are usually allways pronounced how they're spelt.

That's why I like Esperanto

And so that the post doesn't go completely off topic - wonder if it would be difficult to make a modification so that the user could choose what template elements should be rendered?

E.g. in the user control panel you would get a list of files, pick one and you get a list of { ELEM } and perhaps <!-- INCLUDE --> tags. Choose which to show and which not to. The preferences would be saved to the DB and the "don't shows" would be passed along to the template engine as "don't render". That way the user could configure a lighter interface without the need for a separate template.

Note - not a feature request, just probing for feasibility of own mod
