Avatar file naming

Post by SilverString »

I just noticed that the avatar naming has been redefined.
in 2.2 looks like the uploaded avatars are name sensibly....
[usernumber]_[filename]
so mine is: 8196_avatar.gif

much better than the 2.0.x where the avatar was named 23089fdsf091234123.jpg :P

thanks for that amendment phpBB team 8)

IIRC, it used to be named after the sid at that time.

and, agreed - nice convention.

yep, this is way better way to name them. Before, you could'nt tell which file was who's avatar! (without seeing one of their posts)

what, so the avatar filename would change when the sid changed?

It was an uniqid(rand()) ... it was actually done this way out of some "necessity". In 2.0 you could chose an avatar during registration ... given that the user_id wasn't known at this point and that we need to do error checking on the avatar before we enter any SQL we needed a unique filename.

In 2.2 you cannot set an avatar during registration so the problem goes away.
