I really like the idea of a subforum but I am uncomfortable with the way something works in it.
When you are on the top level there is a icon telling us that there are sub forums in that forum. When you then go into that forum you see both a first level and second level subforum. Firstly shouldnt you only see the first level sub forum and not the forum that is in it?
And secondly when you enter the first level subforum the subforum inside it is not accessable unless you go up another level. If this is the case why place a sub forum inside a sub forum?
Hope this makes sense!! It is a little complicated to explain.
Looks like great work.
Josh

Re: Subforum
I think it's the way that they've set up the categories and such for their sub-forums. On my CVS I have several levels of sub-forums and you only see them inside their parent forums. I notice there is a "List forum on main index" link or something like that, perhaps that could make a difference?
Images in sigs! please.

Re: Subforum
It just doesnt seem right that you cant see the sub-sub-forum when in the sub-forum. Why create a sub-sub-forum if this is the case!!

Re: Subforum
I'm not too sure I understand what you mean ... let me take a guess.
In the Testing forum here we have two subforums, one is a direct child whereas the other appears under a category (the grey category table header).
You think we should instead just show the "category" as a subforum icon which you then click to reveal the sub-subforum icon.
If you follow ...

Re: Subforum
I think all that joshpape is saying is that the sub-subforum should be visible in the subforum but not the original forum. So basically the relationship between the sub-subforum and the subforum should be the same as the relationship between the subforum and the forum.

This is what I am trying to get at. I do not have so much of a problem with the subforum and the sub-subforum being displayed together BUT more a problem that once you have entered the subforum you cannot directly enter the sub-subforum. This is to me illogical as the sub-subforum is meant to be sub to the subforum. no?
Re: Subforum
I think there's some confusion regarding the hierarchy here, and the names of the forums sure don't help. Here, I'll lay it all out. (Actually, the jumpbox lays it out quite well, but I'd rather be thorough than just point you elsewhere.)
Everything Else
--Chit Chat
--Testing Subforum
----Subforum
----A subforum within the subforum
------A sub-sub forum
This is the relevant area. I think you're seeing the names and thinking that A sub-sub forum is a subforum of Subforum (o.O). In reality, it's a nephew. The general idea seems to be that if a forum is postable, it will be displayed. If it's not postable, it will be displayed as a category heading, and all of its postable subforums will be displayed.

Re: Subforum
I find it easier to think of it as a tree type thing. Using Aexoden's example, it would look like this:
So from 'Subforum' you cannot see 'A sub-sub forum' because it is not 'Subforum's' child but 'A subforum within the subforum's' child.
Hope this helps to explain it

Re: Subforum
Ah, I think I am being to understand. I find it very hard to explain with words as am a very visual person. I am also pleased to see that the sub forum in the testing section has being altered slightly which helps it not to be so confusing.
The next question is whether you can actually create a subfoum within a subforum that couldnt be seen until you enter the subforum (you would though an icon see that there is another forum within it). I guess the question is will phpbb2.2 support unlimited heirachy (sp?)
Thank you all for your help.
