A reasonably "working" CVS thing

Post by Darkshines »

hello people.

I have downloaded a CVS thingummer of 2.2 on a few occasions (ok, three) in order to test it out a bit, poke around with the new features etc and on each occasion I found that - as promised - it was totally borked. Well, actually the latest one worked fine except that the INCLUDE tags in the templates just didn't do anything, and I had to get the header and footer to display by hacking (which, in turn, messed up stuff like the User CP, which uses INCLUDE tags on more than just the header and footer. Well anyway...)

I have noticed that the version used on this forum is consistently in a state of non-borkness, that everything - more or less - works (although my experimenting with the code yesterday tells me that things like the variable used to access the language pack, and the way the templates are parsed are mid-overhaul). Might I trouble you for an explanation of how you have the thing running reasonably recent code, and yet it never totally screws up? The footer suggests that you are using a more recent version here even than the one I downloaded yesterday...

I keep downloading changes with WinCVS, and keep updating it. Yet my first CVS was I believe April 16th one, and it worked fine ever since.

Only problem I had was with the templates not showing, and the "includes" of overall_header and overall_footer not displaying correctly. But then I understood how are they managing templates right now.

create a cache/templates/subSilver and CHMOD it to 777, then refresh your board and you won't have any kind of problems with the template. [which is so far the only thing that beated me]

besides that, not many things work, like the UCP [it's only there, but with no functionability], or some of the options at the admin panel, this is an alpha state of the board, don't expect everything to work.

Pre-milestone 2, is the current state, still there's a long way ahead, prolly a path that will fix most of the current errors.

your problem with the header and footer is because you did not chmod cache/templates to 777.

Thanks for the style-thing

But I can't log in to my forums:
http://www.serqevx.com/espenhh/phpBB22/" target="_blank

I know this forum isn't for support, but I would really like to see the admin-panel... I think maybe the login-problem is a cache-thing that too..

Why is the cache-folder made? i see it cache files, but why? to save loadingtime, or???
Espen

(Huge thanks to the phpBB-developers!!!)

Need Norwegian support????

Not only is this not a support forum, there is no support for CVS phpBB2.1/2.2.

But yes, ./cache is used to reduce runtime requirement, speeding things up.

Thanks, that saved me (I didn't get any errors at all, just a blank white screen)

I'd like to say now that the admin panel is sexi and the new features (what's working right now at least) are looking amazing. You're doing some really great work and I can't wait for the release (*wishes for a release next week*)
Images in sigs! please.

Try around June/July, or even august :)

Then a release will be made, they might surprise us, releasing sooner, who knows...depends on the speed they're working on, and not working saturday/sundays [no emails of cvs changes] it could be a while.

You don't know that.

To my knowledge the release date is

Have you ever heard something called GUESSING?

I know I don't have a date where it will be released, I was guessing.

TRY around june/july. That's a sentence that states ME guessing the release date.

And I judge by the development of THIS board [which is devs test ground] and by the emails of the CVS [if you know what that is] then you get an idea of how far they are in the coding.

Some people need to live and learn so many things...
