Will Admins/Moderators be able to merge topics?

The title is pretty self-explanatory. Having worked previously on a vBulletin as an administator over at ToonZone.net, I found the merge feature very helpful. PHP2BB is an excellent forum software, but the only things missing that I would like to see added if they aren't already being planned are the ability to merge threads and for users to be able to create their own custom titles.

Thread merging will be inplemented, but i'm not 100% about the custom title, but i *think* it is.

I don't know... I think people tend to treat getting new titles as a sort of reward. But if you really want that, there's probably a mod for that. I don't know of any specific ones though.

as i said, i'm not sure hows it's going to be implemented, if at all, or if it will remain a mod.

if it is implemented, it will probably be done on a [x] posts needed first.

_If_ it is implemented, the obvious way would be to make it part of the extended permissions system. That way a user group could be created called "can have custom title" with that permission turned on, with an _event_ to promote people to that user group on 'X posts' or 101 other combinations of conditions.

Custom titles seems like it kinda ruins the whole point of titles to me.. They're there to distinguist the person, whether they've just joined, are staff etc...

That's why I give people both custom titles and ranks on my forums (my own MOD does that). :p But I'm sure a lot of people would see that as cluttering. I also give a third rank that says "Member" or "Moderator", etc. I guess I just go nuts for features.

AFAIK, I'm pretty sure a merge topic feature will be implemented, I remember hearing talk of how best to implement it

On our forum (phpBB 2.0.4), we have a mod I've coded that let's the user choose between a couple of predefined titles that administrators can edit in the admin panel.

The reason that we have stopped using ranks (i.e. titles based on # of posts) is to reduce the amount of spamming to get to higher ranks. And it did reduce the spamming quite a lot.

Maybe that could be implemented? (so I don't have to fix the mod to work with 2.2.0

)
