Most of this I knew about before, but:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* "Events", allowing the admin to define situations applicable to users and usergroups, e.g. "Usergroup X inherits Rank Y after Z days", "User A gains B forum permissions after C posts"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That sounds _extremely_ interesting! Much like a sort of "promotion rule", which would allow us to create private forums for long-term members and so on, and perhaps even do something like granting moderator privileges to someone who's been on the board for 5 years (not that I'd want to do this, but it's an example). Of all the proposed features this sounds like the most interesting (aside from attachments ).
Quick question, any chance we'll have coloured usernames throughout the board rather than just the memberlist etc? Even better, rather than a simple colour specification, why not make it a CSS specification? I.e. <span style="{row.USER_STYLE}">{row.USERNAME}</span>, which an admin can specify either as a simple colour in the ACP, which will generate "color:#AABBCC; " automatically, or for those of us who know some CSS (or lots of CSS...), extraordinarily outlandish things like "filter: chroma(color=#000000) glow(color=#00FF00,strength=20)" . Just a thought

Just imagine how great the event system would be with Karma rating implented. *hint* *hint*
User A has a certain amount of "helpful" Karma (a few different kinds of Karma like helpful, interesting, spam which can be assigned to a User's post, why not?), so he gets a rank which symbolizes this, e.g. "Santa's little helper".
And now I will shut up and continue the discussion about ratings here:

Paul,
Wow! I had not idea that you had already implemented so much! It sounds great!
I do have one *probably ignorant question*. Excuse me in advance for asking.
It concerns this:
In 2.2 compilation is the default, indeed at present it cannot be disabled. At the current time the compiled templates are output to flat files stored within a world writeable directory. This shouldn't be a major issue for the vast majority of users.
Would having this stuff in a "world writable" directory make the 2.2 more suceptable to hackers attacks? Would they be able to upload crap and corrupt the forums or run arbitrary code?

Whether you like it or not, attachments will be in 2.2. However, you will be able to turn them off on a per-forum basis.
