How did this board achieve a category-type view? It doesn't seem to be available with 2.1.2...

They are forums with a category type, and so displayed with a different layer.

It's the development version of phpBB, you can get it from area51.phpbb.com .

You're better off waiting for 2.2... It will be much more stable and avialable soon.

True..............i can't even change my v2.1.2 board's title......

and, the board is barely functional at this point. Iand, The CVS does not come with any installtion instructions, either. ;)
Think that the developers have secretly stopped working on PhpBB v2.2? Think again........see the latest progress HERE:

There's a reason for that.

agreed it is not recommended "in general" -- was just making a point contrary to the notion that
the board is barely functional at this point
which has not been my observation from "recent" CVS snapshot downloads and related testing (any one of which could be a "wacko" download :)). This does not mean one will or will not have problems with installations or configuration at this point (yeap there are still missing parts, etc.), but I would argue that there is considerable alpha functionality for "testing purposes" and would add it is not for the "Faint of Heart" needing help or support, but much better than what I looked at a few months ago...
