True but also read the rest...
Now whilst Mambo can be modified, added to etc. to provide this style of site this is not the goal of the project. Mambo is aimed at the more professional of sites e.g. small to medium business, family or personal sites.
SO... someone made this site...

http://www.mamboportal.com/

This site contains tons of components and modules that essentially transform mambo into a portal solution, hence the sitename mambo portal.

Not many people realized that this site exists... hmm... I wonder how I found it a few months ago... Oh, yeah, my good friend Google... I think...

If just want a portal for phpBB, just use the phpBB Fetch All mod. It comes with a portal example page to get you started. I integrated every page on my site with phpbb, including the login, with it.
I can't delete my signature.

Going back to question, if you want phpNuke to have a good forum then it needs its own. Or you could have phpBB Portal when it is released.

Just dont complain, if the phpBB2.2 team tried to intergrate with every CMS available they would here from now till 2050. You need to build them together. i.e. phpBB Portal

I have started looking at phpBB Fetch All, and am already implementing some of its functionality. I've found it very easy to use (although I don't have much experience in portals, so I can't really compare), and the example portal page is very helpful. However, I am interested in phpBB Portal, and I'll probably switch to that when it is released.

just to warm up the conversation again. i am looking for the same solution like valiant. having a portal server (not a portal like nuke but a portal server framework rather) where i can register portlets, i.e integrations with other apllications. i am looking at an integration of phpBB.

Integration means , like valiant said,
- usage of the portal framework user authentication and session management
- usage of phpBB API to read and write content

The background here is fairly simple. the portal framework allows end users to define their own pages. so called portlets define, what applications are beeing asked for information and return a value title and a value content these two values are taken by the portal server and pressed in a template for display. Obviously i am looking on how i can push phpBB into the Content variable so it maintains the links and all other actions.

will it be at all posible to put 2.2 into nuke, not saying phpbb2 will have to do it, but if the nuke staff were to do it, would it be able to work, is there that slight chance that those of us that use php-nuke will be able to enjoy what seems to be a fantastic phpbb.

That is a question to be asked in the phpnuke forums, or nukecop.

Considering the fact someone ported it to Nuke before, someone will do it again. There aren't even that many changes to make. Due to the way the phpBB team has coded it, it becomes a very simple task. You only have to change a few things, such as the *_TABLE constants and $phpbb_root_dir.
