After fooling around for a while and playing with the CVS
Ah yes.. the templates.. they needed a lot of work to suite my needs.. the stylesheets.. yes, great .. but.. it doesn't really work with our old (current) styles .. mm.. work and more work.. but hell, it's worth it.. and it's FUN!!
it finally came to a point where it became actually usable!! HURRAH!!
so we started to build our forum.. the categories.. etc etc etc..
nuffin
hmm.. I don't see them?? 8O
o.. perhaps permissions?? ok.. yes, guest can see this.. good
still nuffin
ah.. long day so I better log off and tackle it tomorrow...
O MY!!!!
Now I can see them!!
8O
logged in as admin.. and poof.. gone again
ok.. heading back to permissions..
yes here.. no there.. maybe?? a, definitely yes here
well.. about 3 hours later I had it done
and ofcourse it was AFTER that that I saw you can save presets
but also.. 13 forums with 4 user groups created about 11000 (yes, eleven thousand) entries in the authorisation table!! My poor MySQL!! It never had to keep up with so much data before!
I saw a post here about v2.2 getting to complex, but that was mainly about the UCP. I think that looks actualy very good.. but on this end and knowing all our specific custom build stuff that has to be implemented.. then yes, it realy is complicated. O... my dbase will be just fine, it's my head that will explode at some point
Oi.. my dbase will explode

8O You think??upsTex wrote: I dont know what you're talking about in your first post.

well.. really, the thing is.. at first I was just playing around with the stuff, but when I came to realise how much settings you "can" make (not have to) and how all that affects the authorisation table(s).. make some more forums and user groups and your talking about tens of thousands entries.
the dbase can handle that, sure, and fast.. but in regard to making mods that will use that table(s).. oi.. I think it can be very complex.. (haven't really investigated it, but)
and really.. I just love to whine and complain

Re: Oi.. my dbase will explode
Is this supposed to be some kind of a joke? A few thousand entries is nothing to a modern computer, and especially to a modern RDBMS. Even if it gets to a million entries, the phpBB2.2 team will still be able to keep queries down to a few milliseconds by using indices.
Perhaps your worries are unwarranted?
