Re: It's back! It's back!
Probably. Someone can easily checkout an older CVS version with the karma stuff included and build upon it.rabidgopher04 wrote:So it was dropped? Will there be a MOD for it?
Re: It's back! It's back!
It was dropped because:
a) time is against us
b) proper implementation continues to be a cause of concern
The later is the key issue here. Many better people have tried to implement karma well and failed. What you instead get is something tailored to each product.
In our case the intention was to use karma to "reward" 'good' members and "punish" 'bad' members. However there is no fool proof way to achieve this. Some of the better ways would've imposed (in my opinion) too great a load on the board (re-computation of karma for all users upon given conditions). The less intensive methods (simple weighting factors) will quite possibly result in unfair situations.
Therefore since we don't have time to concentrate on a single element I decided to forgo it in 2.2.x.

Yeah, I thought of that when I first read about it a long time ago and I was hoping you guys would find a way to make it work. Regardless, you all are doing a marvelous job.psoTFX wrote:In our case the intention was to use karma to "reward" 'good' members and "punish" 'bad' members. Now, what's the significance of the post details? It appears to be the same information that you can see in a thread just displayed differently. Is it more for moderators?

Yes, this is more of a moderator toolkit. The more permissions you have, the more you can do. May it be to check the IP of the poster / the IP the user posted from, the moderation options you have permissions for, and - the best part - it integrates with the moderation queue.rabidgopher04 wrote:Now, what's the significance of the post details? Re: It's back! It's back!
Post Details are only viewable by Admins and Mods (within the given forum), i just forgot the permission check.
With the next checkin this link will be gone for normal users.

Re: It's back! It's back!
Is it possible (I guess a better question would be 'would the mod team allow it?') that a Karma-Level MOD be validated/released? I find that it might come in quite handy...

Re: It's back! It's back!
Any Mod that doesn't pose a security risk, breach copyright or fail to be based on or use phpBB coding standards is likely to be validated by our Mod team. Karma is no different here. If you mean will we release a Karma mod ourselves contained in the contrib/ directory (for example) the answer is no.
