Hi All,
I didn't find an answer for this question so I figured I would just ask.
Will there be an automated conversion/upgrade tool for existing templates in current versions? It seems that since the changes are fairly standard this could be automated fairly easily.
Thanks,
Troutster

Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
Chances are that changes between 2.0.x and 2.2 styles will be done soley by the style author. I highly doubt there will be a tool to convert. Of course, the only one that can be upgraded is subSilver
Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
It is so easy to play with the CSS and images pack that it shouldn't be a big deal to recover at least the same "feel" that your previous template, although you may prefer use the subSilver html template files (tpls - actualy .html in 2.1 - are much more independant from the CSS than in 2.0 regarding subSilver).
Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
subSilver clones can be easily converted within few hours - only css and images needs to be changed.
Other styles will require some work, but i'm sure authors will convert most existing styles to 2.2.

Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
Has anyone created a style for 2.2 or is it intended to produce a tutorial.
I say as as I am having problems understanding what is needed. It's simple enough doing the graphics but what goes where?
Have read related posts but as I am quite stupid, I need more help. So if anyone has any suggestions... please!

Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
Nearer release, probably.
Actually, several people have created styles already (ie changed the colours), but creating templates is to this point not worth the effort.

Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
The conversion of styles is impossible to automate in any practical fashion. It's a job that must be done by hand. Granted, some themes are easier to port such as the subSilver variants mentioned earlier. If the style authors are still active, then I'm sure they'll be obliged to get with the times when the times come.
Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
I plan on converting my alexis theme to 2.2 in the future. Why wouldn't someone do it? Why make a theme, release it, and then loose everything you worked for when a new version of phpBB comes out?
Re: Import/Uprade Styles from Previous Versions
I have managed to make a theme/template/style using a well know and effective auto update method... I painstakingly modified the subSilver and them exported it.
Strangely enough this method was very fast in comparison to building a completely new one. Now just waiting fo rthe portal....
