Why do you like this idea? What difference does it make?

I think Raz put it well - CVS is a development tool. By using the CVS code, we're working with code in development. It's really not that hard to understand. We're all anxious to fiddle with a working v2.2 to be sure. Some of us can do that with the CVS code, some of us will have to wait for a beta. Simple.

Seriously though, if you can't figure out CVS then there's little chance you can correct the bugs that show up in the 2.1. Installing is always difficult because of mis-matched table and data schemae/schemas(?) and bugs were a plenty in the modulised areas (MCP and UCP).

DoD wrote:I think the error could be there on purpose. To install it, you need knowledge of PHP and MySQL (or other). I can see why its done... to reduce the number of people with a "working" CVS. The only people who would moan are the people who dont know how to fix the small bugs.
I think this too. Whether deliberate or not, making it hard for people to install is a good idea, because at least those who can install must know what they're doing.

I have successfully installed 2.1 in a private place to play with. The modifications to code required to do this are not excessive, but I will not explain them here, and I accept all risk of installing it. I suggest to anyone out there who does want to install this - if you don't know how to make it install, it's probably too dangerous anyway, so forget it for a while.

No, we don't purposely prevent the snapshots installing. It's a simply a case that something may be actively in development. Sometimes during this period things will be left half-complete over a period of hours or days. That may prevent new installs or certain features from functioning. As has been noted if this happens, you're on your own.

2.1.2 gave me a little trouble but with easy fix.

First off, when beginning the install it gave me an error about the default database file : install\schema_data.sql has an extra value on the end of it.
Search that file for:
INSERT INTO phpbb_groups (group_id, group_name, group_type, group_colour) VALUES (6, 'SUPER_MODERATORS', 3, '00AA00', 0)

and replace with:
INSERT INTO phpbb_groups (group_id, group_name, group_type, group_colour) VALUES (6, 'SUPER_MODERATORS', 3, '00AA00')

Secondly I got an error that it couldn't write to my config.php file correctly, even though it did. So I tried clicking "DONE" on the second form, but it didnt work. So while trying to log in to my localhost ftp server i figured out i had to use: "/" (without quotes) and it uploaded it to my root ftp directory, then i just copied into the phpbb21 folder and viola!

Great job btw!!

Also found error trying to fix my email address under my profile. The one that I set when installing didn't save, and when I try to change it with either admin or as a user, it just comes back with NEW_EMAIL_ERROR and wont write the email.

Also with the profile area where you set your AIM, MSN, and birthday info, when you hit submit, you get sql error:

Code: Select all

SQL ERROR [ mysql ]

You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE user_id = 2' at line 3

CALLING PAGE

/phpbb21/ucp.php&i=3&mode=profile_info

SQL

UPDATE phpbb_profile_fields_data SET WHERE user_

Thanks for the compliment but as we clearly say in the forum descriptions ... please do not report bugs.
