Please also do not ask for support ... this includes "Well, I'm not really asking for support ... just wondering if someone else has the same problem" ... I'll answer that question for you, there will be other people having the same problem

Yep, that's why I provide the link.

Re: error with cvs snapshot?
Best is not to help people, really. Its the wishes of the developers, that we wont help them until they say we can... and i'm going to stick by that.
I've seen lots of bugs in my CVS, i've fixed alot. But i will only share my fixes when the developers want us to.

Re: error with cvs snapshot?
but why? Why would a developer not want people to share fixes? I still don't get it.

Re: error with cvs snapshot?
Because there is nothing to support - no finished product, no beta product. It's a work in progress. These forums will fill up with temporary fixes, fixes that might be obsolete tomorrow.
Nobody should be using the CVS snapshots - any one of them or the most current one - in a live environment unless they can support the snapshots themselves.
Why should any of the area51 resources be dedicated to support of software still in development? It makes no sense to me that it should be otherwise.

Re: error with cvs snapshot?
Share fixes for what? CVS at any given moment? You know what I, Acyd or Ashe are thinking at any given moment then? What we intend for a piece of code? You know that all bugs are indeed bugs? That they are not simply unfinished "features" or items which are subject to change? That we haven't actually fixed any of the "real" bugs but haven't committed them? That we haven't reworked (or intend to rework) something that is currently "broken"?
Do you want to moderate a forum where people who can (no offence to them) barely run 2.0.x with a fully operational install/upgrade script and fairly stable and understood operating regime want support on the most basic of things ... things which change perhaps daily even hourly when we're really "going"? How about coping with, as mentioned the various snapshots or CVS updates which can vary from apparently small changes (which may have massive though not always obvious consequences) through to wide-scale modifications to core scripts? How about talking people through manual database updates which may require rather lengthy and/or indepth operations.
"But this is just for people here!!" will no doubt come the answer, my response "No, it'll be all and sundry the moment a 'support board' appears" ... and that's exactly what will happen ... how do I know? Because I've not only seen it happen to other "product" (hence why it is not at all uncommon to find alpha releases as 'unsupported in any shape and form' and why it's quite rare even to find supported beta releases in the commercial arena except for bug hunting) I saw the same thing with 2.0. So again, the answer is "No", we do not want this to become a support board ... and users helping users == support board whether you wish to believe it or not.

sorry but i cant post this in it's own topic
btw, I cant post threads anywhere here is my message that I tried to post,
Is it just a problem with my account? becuase everyone else seems to be able to post just fine. For some reason I cant post threads in any of the forums. I hit submit after typing my new thread, it says it was succesfully posted or something and when it goes to redirect me to my post, I get a 'topic does not exist' or a 'forum does not exist.'
Anyone else having this trouble or does it have to do wiht my permissions or something?
thanks
