The changed position of the posting date in 2.2?

Post by brianlees »

I know it can be moved in the template; however, the curiosity is killing me. :D What made the developers change the position of the post date from the top of the message in 2.0 to the bottom right in 2.2?

Thanks

Brian

You answered your own question. If you don't like it, just adjust it in the template.

wert: but YOU did not answer ;-)

I think it was because too many people wanted to know the date AFTER having read than before (and if the writer had excuses for such a lame post...) for instance: you would be able to see that, going to school, I'd be tired, and scuse my french :p

I think all of this is a question of taste (correct word ?)

ie: I wouldn't have sat the edit and quote button at top, as both are used after reading the post, not before, so it makes more sense to see them at bottom. Also the creation date takes a poor place at the bottom : it is much more a subject relative info than a signature relative info (when you write a letter, the date comes first, not last). Post subject, although it is a really important information, still remains in small size : it would have been more appropriate to have it bold, and in the text size, and without the "Post subject:" mentioned on each post : I think a reader is smart enough to get to the conclusion that a title may be considered as a post subject :). Anyway, hopefully the template system let us designed them as we prefer, so that's not a big deal :).

I'm sure you'll be able to change the layout to make it like you want.
TBH, I prefer the post date at the top, but I'll just alter it when I get the final version :)

Geesh, didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I agree that I view the date as more subject oriented. I like your example of writing a letter. Another one would be an email. The date is always at the top and is part of the header information.

Not a biggie, hopefully. I'll just move it in the template. As for the quote button....I never thought of it that way. You bring up an interesting point; however, I think it would cause confusion if moved to the bottom of a post, since that is where all the "user specific info" is located. Hmm...now that I think about it, though, wouldn't a quote be "user specific"? :?

The way I see it is like a V : left part (outside the V) is for user relative information, center part (inside the V) is for message relative information, and rigth part (outside the V) is for actions relative information (report, quote, edit, and so), but it is only a way :).

personally I like the date in the bottom. It stands out more than being lumped in with a slew of info on the top near the msg.

hehe I didn't like the fact I had to go back and login before I could hit reply though, I'm used to being prompted for the login not told I just can't post

Last I checked, this wasn't a support forum, and it still isn't a support forum.

If you can figure it out for yourself, then use the CVS to your hearts content... otherwise, don't bother.

I'm going to unlock this ... It's very easy to close these sorts of topics thinking they are support related, we get sooo many of them. However since it's pretty much discussion of layout I think it's okay to continue. Course, if it does turn into "Can you just show me how to move X to Y?" ... I'll set SHS` lose :)
