Karma - Hiding posts - Hiding persons

Post by mansuetus »

Hello, excuse my french ;-)

So, I see karmas everywhere, I think it's good, BUT, well...

do karmas hide every messages from a single person ? like a global ignore ? or just messages rated "bad" ??? is the karma only the reflect of what the user has posted last days, or will the karma make every message desappear automatically...
in that case, I would not like it....

sorry if I am wrong, and thanks in advance to correct me (or/and tell me where to RTFM)

Karma is for a person not a post, rating posts is a bit different from this karma system.

Lets see some problem: You have a large board and not enough moderators, and don't want to trust more people with these privilegies, how can you fix most of the problems? Let the users decide about a lot of posts. But it isn't enough since an unrated post can still start a flame war. But you can also keep a history about the user. It can reduce your work, since one who keeps starting flame wars, etc will be ignored, and you will have time to react to his posts, and if he is nice, mark his posts are nice. But as allways it doesn't a 100% effective way, since quotes can make some offensive parts of posts visible, and ... It is a tool can be used and can be abused. A tool we don't know yet, and a possible answer to a common problem.

I would suggest that the poster still be displayed even if his/her post is hidden.

You really start to be annoying ! You can do everything since you read a few the code !
please do not say everything has to be removed ! It is not finished !

It is already stated. It says something along the lines of "xx has made a post which is below the level you view, click HERE to view it"

or something like that.

Remember, things break here. As I recall, the message used to be as described by TheMole. Adjusting the karma threshold in the UCP isn't connected with character sets, yet the hidden posts are displayed.
