Can you import a database file from a different board style, say..."Burning Board 2.1.1" to PhpBB2.2 if you want to?
Or if you want to change from boards, you need to start from 0?
Thank you.

Re: Database Question
Convertors from major board formats will be released once phpBB 2.2 is done. Convertors from other major boards to phpBB 2.0.x are already available over @ http://www.phpbb.com" target="_blank

Oh. I see you're still with the smartass replies SHS.
I wonder why do you even waste time replying to topics that doesn't interest you.

Re: Database Question
Kuma,
It's because you're asking questions about converters to a forum that isn't even out of alpha yet. The Schema in in flux and not finalized and yet you expect us to tell you everything about the converters that will be available for it?
Patience grasshopper.

"You'll have to do the SQL updates manually by hand."
As has been noted previously, the foreign BBS converter/2.0.x upgrade script will be based on a new version of the UCS... so by rights, there will probably be more convertors that you'd possible care for to migrate whatever they may be to phpBB2.2... and if one doesn't exist by the time 2.2 is in RC, before release... I should take someone that long to write one.
Heck, it wouldn't even be that difficult for some enterprising individual to dump a DB in XML format, and apply the conversion change offline using XSL, which can be done in PHP, Perl or Java.

Re: Database Question
And indeed, if you want to hear it from someone else, take it from me, speaking as one of the Convertor authors, that most of the convertors will utimately be updated to work with 2.2, but for the minute, it's not really something that is worth us doing much about because the DB schema changes at least weekly.
And even if there is not a convertor available for a given forum to 2.2 at release time, you may still be able to go Forum->2.0.x->2.2.x
Although, reading the reply from SHS' I suspect that before 2.2 is released there is likely to need to be some discussion between the people who write the convertors, and the developers to agree on some common interfaces for the convertors to use.

Re: Database Question
I understand all of your points.
Yet "and yet you expect us to tell you everything about the converters that will be available for it?"
No. I don't expect you to tell me "everything" about the converters. I asked a simple question that requires a simple answer:
Yes, a lot of converters when the new version it's released will be available, I'm sure every author of a converter out there will upgrade as soon as it releases.
I know this is alpha software, I've been watching the development close by through the cvs so I don't expect answers when it comes to development, reason why you don't see me posting here often about features that are/not working.
Just wanted to know if support for DB backup-restore would be possible when it's released. No need for the patronizing.
Thank you all for the answers.

Re: Database Question
And if you actually read our posts, you would understand the the dbase schema is in flux and not complete. Thus it's useless to ask about converters at this time.Kuma wrote:
