It would be nice if the censor function replaced ONLY those four letters in any word that contained them, and it would be very, very nice if 2.2 had this possibility. - It wasn't really what I meant :wink:

Wouldn't that just make it easier for the person to translate what the original word was? - That's my point :wink:

In 2.2 you can completely disable censoring from your user profile

If permission is granted for you to do so ... for example the registered coppa user group is currently set to deny word censor change rights.

Is there a way that cheap tricks like this

will be addressed?

Feel free to remove the word if you think it was unadequate to post it.

"----ing ----er" --> "####### ######" not "**** ****"

When coding a forum myself, I saw the utter need for this precise feature! :D , so i did it, and it works!

I can't be bothered building mods and hacks for the general world 'cos i can be sure no-one will actually want it... but if you are one of the non-people who needs this or wants to write such a mod, i'd be happy to give you the code. Email Me Don't be too worried if you don't get an immediate response. I check my email about once a fortnight so don't give up hope. Alternatively reply to this thread.

It has: 3 replacement modes, allowing for partial replacement, position-dependent replacement, or complete obliteration!.
All stems from a config array of "bad words".
Don't read the lines below if you are under 13. etc...
oh... that's evil! :wink: But i can't see a way around that, not without substantial replacement patterns... anyway what are moderators for if not for banning you for such trickery??? :)

I generally just use replacements rather than blocking them out.
eg: At my Star Wars forum, words are reoplaced with Star Wars curses :D
But I do like most of the stuff you have been talking about in this thread. Very handy stuff, it would be.
