The template engine (class) is pretty well done.

The templates themselves are no-where near done, not all the functionality has been completed. In order to keep your templates up to date you will have to be altering them every day, going through every CVS check-in for the life of the development of phpBB2.1/2.2

So it isn't something I would think of doing just yet, maybe when we hit the RC's, the changes won't be so numerous, just bug fixing really :D
