hmmm, a bit rudepsoTFX wrote:I don't recall asking for an opinion on this
i'd have to agree, the top and left looked much better.
Re: UCP new look...
"A bit rude"? Why? Because I dared question a suggestion made by a user? I did intend it (as noted by the smiley) as a joke ... and I can't say I appreciate the response above too much.
I think what would be helpful is for everyone to remember that suggestions are just that, suggestions. We listen to them, we may even change things based on them. However, at the end of the day it's up to those putting the package together to decide what it looks like, what it does (or doesn't do). If some end users don't like that they are free to change it or indeed use something that does behave as they desire. We are here to please the majority, not the minority.
As for the change in the UCP, I didn't just wake up and say "hhmm, think I'll annoy a few people today". The existing implementation was not and could never be HTML 4.01 compliant due to the use of height within table elements. Given that fact I started looking at alternatives which could be made 4.01 compliant or better yet, XHTML compliant. Those investigations are not complete.
I add that don't feel I (or any other developer here) should or indeed do feel the need to justify everything they do ... opensource =/= free for all

Re: UCP new look...
After looking it over, I actually like this method a little better.
Either way, this is a styling issue which you can change yourself anyways. Maybe it will encourage more people to use something different than the default style.

I can't see the meaning of this life I'm leading,
I try forget you as you forgot me...
This time there is nothing left for you to take -
this is goodbye...

(Yes, the admins are going to all severly rate me down for this and that big stick weilder will come up with a new line: whenever someone makes fun of an admin/moderator the release is delayed by 2 months )

Re: UCP new look...
I just noticed this; this is whole lot better implementation than what was previously used.
Re: UCP new look...
I quite like the new way over the old. Seems cleaner and more efficient somehow.
Need good web hosting? I recommend Hostrocket.
Re: UCP new look...
I also like the look of this system. cant quite remember the old, but i remember that looking quite good. If that doesnt work at a coding leveel then obviously this is the better option. Plus im sure someone will come along and make a template that puts everything along the top anyway if they really wanted too.(might be hard but im sure it could be done someway, maybe not exactly as it was before. THen again im not coding genious)
