Do you think that a topic archiving feature of sorts would be useful? I mean... there's this thread you like (informative, fun, useful, etc) and if you want to keep it from possible deletion (forum pruning, forum crashes, etc) you have to save the pages to disk (with all the page html)...
What if you could click on "Archive Topic to Disk" to save it to your HD, much like you can print it with the "Print Friendly" option? It would then save all the post info (including post formatting, sizes, colors, etc) and important poster info (of course, who posted each post and the date) on a simpler HTML file(s). Same thing with your own posts (like "search my posts" but "archive my posts", maybe with a "start" date for subsequent archiving).
What do you think? :
Hey, okey... I know the rules, no feature requests... that's why I've formulated it into a kind of "what would you think of this thing that I'll probably post on the Sourceforge tracker once I can..." or maybe... "why isn't it already in?" :/
Sorry

Hmm, the printer friendly view works kinda like a an download topic/archive function. If that is not enough for you, I bet there will at least a MOD or if you are extremely lucky the developers are willing enough to implent it.
But please no more feature requests.

I was going to suggest you using "File > Save As..." - then I tried it an realized it didn't work, at least for me.
Nice suggestion for a change...

"File > Save As..." wont work right in IE because of the no cache headers that are sent. Things might work fine in other browsers though.

Re: What if there was some kind of topic archiving?
File -> Save As won't really work as a topic might be split over multiple pages. A cool MOD would be one that lets you download a complete topic in pdf form (/me stares at Pit). But as I mentioned earlier, the print topic view should be enough to satisfy your needs.

Yes, Save As works in printable view. Coolness.

Re: What if there was some kind of topic archiving?
me bumps that topic.
what i really would be looking forward would be the following. an archive function that works more or less like the pruning system except for that the topics aren't deleted but moved to an archive forum (+ the admin can decide if the users can search the archive or not).
a pdf downloadable topic really sounds cool for a mod imo.

You can bump the topic all you like ... if it's a request it goes in the request tracker.

While we're on the subject of archiving - is there support for forum pruning to move a topic to another forum instead of deleting it?
