My feeling here is that overall the benefits outweigh the privacy issues. It allows users to not only see what they voted for but offers them the ability to change that vote/s ... and I suspect this may be useful in a fair number of cases.

Re: Polling Data
By default we do now store the option/s voted for by a user ... but we do not give the admin direct access to this. There are privacy issues I'm still a little uncomfortable with but ultimately I think it's a case of do you want to frequent boards where the admin noses around in your poll results or private messages ... can't say I'd stay long at such boards

Re: Polling Data
ive ran a community forum where we had a compition for "funnest male/female, most liked male/female" and we found people started cheating, but we couldnt prove it and pinpoint the members that were cheating since we couldnt see who had voted for what. Circumstances like that it may be helpfull.

Re: Polling Data
That's the argument for limiting polling ability through post count which you will be able to do with usergroups and the events system (I assume it is planned to have an X posts = membership to Y group?) since that can limit multiple accounts voting in polls without first making a fair number of votes. Combined with a flood control it would be difficult for a multi to swing a vote without a moderator finding and stopping them

Re: Polling Data
But it's fun looking at who voted for what without anyone knowing! It's a privlege of being an admin!beeurd wrote:I prefer the idea of not disclosing who voted for what.
If people want others to know, they usually reply to the topic to explain their choice.
Re: Polling Data
Actually I'd class it as an invasion of privacy ... unless you specifically say that as an admin you examine raw data in the database including poll and private message information.

Re: Polling Data
Talking about privacy, I am always amazed how many so called admins are shaken when they are told that they cannot see their users passwords in the database. 8O
Re: Polling Data
Do you ever need to? If someone has password trouble you can change it all you like anyway...

Re: Polling Data
You're missing the point
That point is many admins seem to have a desire to view all attributes of the user ... even ones that shouldn't, ordinarily concern them.

Re: Polling Data
yeh thats true... as they say "absolute power, crupts absolutly"
Re: Polling Data
Whether or not it is an invasion of privacy is irrelevant if the poll does not need to be private. My guys vote and then post a message afterward to say they have voted and what they voted for.
In this case, privacy is not a concern becuase those that are voting, dont care!
