(should be in tracker i know...)

In the admin section you could include a "Check remote avatars"-function...

This sould be able to see if size or dimetions are not in order...
(if not by script, I't 'll be posible on view)

Then you can warn that usere, or delete his avatar..

Don't feel too bad about putting it into the tracker, it's closed right now.

There is a mod that exists which downloads remote avatars and checks standard to see if they fit, and if they are the right size. It deletes it then, and if it was the right size sets that as the avatar.

That could kind of work (not saying the mod should be put in). But, an image could be uploaded in its place with different dimensions, so it really doesn't give 100% protection.

The current way is a pretty crafty idea, and the best solution out of any I can think of.

A remote avatar check once when it is initially set should be enough to cover users accidently linking to an avatar that is too big. Most people who would change the file linked to after it has been set in their profile would be people trying to cause trouble anyway, who can be dealt with by admins and moderators.

I said otherwise? I was just saying that I thought that remote checking every time the avatar was loaded was unnecessary and that I thought this system was fine. :?

Yes ... and I was noting that's exactly what we do since people are still talking about something that's already in place. No need to get upset, I was simply filling out what you were saying.

on this topic:one thing i'd like to see is different avatar size limits for upload and off-site link.that is because i have small bandwidth and i have a 20k limit for avatars uploaded on my server, though i wouldn't mind having a 50k limit for the ones on other sites..that's it,would be great, thank you
