lyrics of the day

[quotef6d26="Stabbing Westward"][bf6d26]When I'm Dead[/bf6d26]

I know the tears you're crying in your bed at night alone
I've cried those tears a thousand times
But those shallow empty songs about suicide are patronizing
You've got to learn to face your fears
Or do you think I'll be less lonely when I'm dead
It can't silence all the voices in my head
I close my eyes but I can't make it go away
Do you think I'll be less lonely
God I pray that I'm not lonely

When I'm dead
When I'm dead
When I'm dead

When I'm dead I won't feel any pain
And when I'm dead I won't feel anything

When I'm dead
When I'm dead
When I'm dead
When I'm dead

I know the songs you're singing, saying nothing loud and clear
I've heard that song a thousand times
But your shallow empty lies about suicide are patronizing
You can never understand what I feel

Or do you think I'll be less lonely when I'm dead
It can't silence all the voices in my head
I close my eyes but I can't make it go away
Do you think I'll be less lonely
God I pray that I'm not lonely

When I'm dead
When I'm dead
When I'm dead
When I'm dead [/quotef6d26]

HOLY SH*T!!! F**KING FINALLY!!!

sorry for the explatives, but i'm so stoked! i finally got my RH 7.3 installed and running last weekend, and it's taken me this long to get my f'n modem working! i'm posting this right now via Konquerer, and man am i stoked. it's freakin' working.
now, a bigger problem - Samba. i can't see my linux box from my XP box, and i've got over the smb.conf file about 50 times, trying different things, etc., but still no dice. so, i just downloaded webmin, which is supposed to be good.

we shall see.

at any rate, i am back in the linux business, and my site will benefit from it, because now i can have a "real" test server at home.

speaking of which, that's problem #2 - getting the FTP server to work.

but man, these problems are a joy compared to the hardware problems. :)

ok, i officially need help.

i've been struggling with two things: getting phpBB set up on my test box, and getting samba to work properly.

first: when trying to install phpBB, i get the error message that the database type selected is not supported on this server (paraphrasing). after searching and RTFM at php.net, it seems that i may need to recomplie PHP with built-in mySQL support (as my phpinfo doesn't seem to display --with-mysql :? ). i have no idea how to do this. hell, it may even be some setting that's hosed that i can configure w/o havening to do this, i don't know. ideas are appreciated. it's a fresh install of RH7.3, which includes the latest versions of apache, mysql, and php, all of which are installed and running.

second: samba. well, the webmin thing is cool, but isn't anything i haven't already done via kedit. as of right now, i can get to my windows shares from linux by entering 'smb://IPaddress/share', at which point i am asked for my password. actually, i'm asked for my password at every point within that directory too. but, it does work. however, i still have the same problems trying to connect to linux from windows and everything seems to be set correctly. any ideas are appreciated.

i know, i have weakened and asked for help, but it is in the essence of time, as my website is awaiting files that i can't test on a live site. :?

[color=green4a3c1][edit - btw, i discovered that the reason my FTP server was not working is because somehow no FTP server package got installed. so, if anyone has a favorite, recomendations are welcome][/color4a3c1]

just when you thought they couldn't possibly care any less about the environment, AOL reaches down into their (soon to be confiscated) bag of tricks and surprises once again.

today in the mail i received - get this - a collectable tin case for my new coaster, er AOL CD. the tin looks like an oversized antique cigarette case with the CD just flopping around in there.

still with me? [ia6e63]tin[/ia6e63]. aluminum. i.e., non-bio-degradable.

at least their paper packaging was trashable/burnable. then came their DVD-like cases. and now this. this just takes the friggin' cake. i am so angry about this, i'm fuming.

btw, it's "AOL version 7.0 (The Easiest and Best version Ever!)", and this tin offers 1025 hours free for 45 days!

i guess they're counting on people not havening calculators, slide-rules, or abbaci, because there's only 1080 [ia6e63]total[/ia6e63] hours in a 45-day span, making their statement even more of a joke.
