Port of phpBB2 (v2.0.0) as a PHPNuke Forum Module

Post by tom-n »

Hi everyone,

I have sent a PM to two of the developers here a few days ago about this, but would also like to announce it formally. I am working on a port of phpBB2 (v2.0.0) to work as the forum within PHPNuke and will be making a public release very shortly. I have been very impressed with the features of V2 ever since I have seen a few sites running the RC releases. The forum in PHPNuke is currently phpBB 1.4.? and upgrading that to the final release of version 2 seemed the obvious step.

If you want to see the current stage of the port, please have a look at the test site at http://bbtonuke.sourceforge.net/ and click on Forums in the left menu. I have taken great care to ensure that all bugs introduced by the port have been fixed, as phpBB2 seems a very stable release and I didn’t want to make it appear any less with my port.

As the final release was only available from the 5th, this has been a very short development cycle, so I do apologise that I haven’t been able to give more advance warning. I want to thank the developers for turning out this wonderful version and I hope that I can return the favour sometime in the future.

Thanks,

Tom

A couple of the guys helping me are working on an importer from the regular forum. Last I heard it was just about complete.

You should open a topic on phpBB.com, in the Portal Forum, so more people know about your project (this forum is not very active anymore).

port announcement

Post by tom-n »

I had thought about it, but I'm not targeting existing phpBB2 forum sites for my port. My main aim is to provide the best forum possible (phpBB2) as a replacement for the exisiting forum in php-nuke, as the version currently used is getting old.

Mind you, if the phpBB2 group does release a complete CMS one day, I'll be one of the first to try it.

the version in php-nuke is really old pre-1.4 (1.0.0/1.2.0)
